Konza Prairie LTER Featured Graduate Student - Drew Scott

Drew Scott is a PhD candidate in the Department of Plant Biology at Southern Illinois University (SIU). Drew came to SIU from the University of Indianapolis where he received his B.S. in Environmental Science looking at how infiltration rates of urban rain gardens compared to turf grass.

Interested in restoration ecology and ecosystem ecology, Drew joined Sara Baer’s lab as a M.S. student in 2013,studying soil carbon dynamics during grassland restoration, and continued in the same lab as a Ph.D. student in 2015.

His doctoral research at the Konza Prairie Biological Station examined the influence of environmental heterogeneity on developing plant and soil microbial communities. He uses observational and experimental field studies to better understand the factors limiting diversity in restored prairies. If you are interested in Drew’s research visit his ResearchGate or send him an email: dascott@siu.edu.

When Drew is not working, he is spending time with his wife and cat exploring the natural areas of Southern Illinois.
