The following key defines the relative abundance indicated for each species (modified and updated from data previously published from Zimmerman, J.L. 1985. Birds of Konza Prairie Biological Station, Kansas. The Prairie Nauralist 17:185-192.)Cowbirds dickcissels

1 = RARE, Very few records, not to be expected
2 = OCCASIONAL. Irregular during the season indicated; or if regular, irregular in its annual frequency of occurance.
3 = UNCOMMON.--Present during the season indicated at low densities. Appropriate habitats must be searched.
4 = COMMON. Present in moderate densities during the seasons indicated and can be expected in appropriate habitats.
5 = ABUNDANT. Occurs at high densities, a very noticeable species in appropriate habitats.
