Konza LTER Research Samples

The Konza Prairie LTER maintains physical samples for several long-term datasets. These samples are located in Bushnell Hall on the Kansas State University campus. A list of samples available appears below.

Policy for Use of Samples

To request use of samples, fill out the KNZ LTER Research Sample Request form. The form will be automatically submitted to the lead PI (principal investigator) who will approve or deny your request.

Soil

  • Collected every 5 years – 1982, 1987, 1992, 1997, 2002, 2010, 2015, 2020

Water

  • Samples are maintained for 10 years

  2. AGW02 dataset: 2012-current
  3. NBP01 dataset: only monthly composite samples through the end of 2021

Mammals and Mammalian Parasites

  • CSM08 dataset: Collected in summer (2016 to 2021) and in winter (2023 to Present) from multiple burn treatments (R1A, R20A, 4B, SpB, SuB, 20B, 4F, 1D). Samples include whole mammalian voucher specimens, consisting of skins, skeletons, and cryopreserved genomic resources. Associated ectoparasites and endoparasites are also available (preserved in ethanol). All samples are searchable by voucher number on the Arctos specimen database (https://arctos.database.museum/) and iDigBio (https://www.idigbio.org/) and are permanently archived in either the Museum of Southwestern Biology or the Kansas State Biorepository.
  • CSM09 dataset: Collected in fall 2022 to Present from N1A and N4B.
